2017 Expression of Interest Greenland Halibut (turbot) for 2+3K and 3LMNO

DFO wishes to advise harvesters who want to participate in the 2017 <65' fixed gear fishery for Greenland Halibut (turbot) in divisions 2+3K or division 3LMNO, that they must submit an expression of interest application to Fisheries and Oceans by June 16, 2017.

For the 2017 fishing season, permits will be used to manage both the 2+3K and 3LMNO Greenland Halibut (turbot) fishery. Once all expressions of interest have been received, the permit trip limits will be set as follows: the 2+3K permit trip limit will be set based on the number of expressions of interest received for that area, the 3L 300 to <500 fms trip limit will be set 10% above the 2+3K trip limit and the 3L >500 fms trip limit will be set at 15% above the 2+3k trip limit. Based on these parameters, fish harvesters are asked to select one area to harvest under the initial 2017 permit. Any remaining unharvested Greenland Halibut will be subject to a draw and harvested after the initial permit fishery has closed. Harvesters will be required to indicate on the application if they want to participate in the draw.

Fish harvesters are required to email or fax their expression of interest application to the Area Chief of Resource Management at david.small@dfo-mpo.gc.ca or fax number 709-292-5205. Applications must be received by Fisheries and Oceans by June 16, 2017. A valid e-mail address must be included in the application as all future correspondence will be conducted by email. Applications are available by contacting the following phone number (709) 292-5181. Incomplete or late applications will not be accepted.
