Fixed Gear Herring Fishery Opening in Bonavista Bay (Fishing Area 5)

DFO advises that the Fixed Gear Herring fishery in Bonavista Bay (Herring Fishing Area 5) for gillnets, trap nets, and barr and tuck seine will open at 0600 hours on Wednesday September 27, 2017.

DFO reminds harvesters that as per the 2J3KLPs Herring Management Measures, the minimum size limit for herring in 2017-2018 will be 9.75 inches (24.76 cm) and the small fish tolerance will increase from 10% to 20%.

Licence conditions are available through the National Online Licensing System (NOLS).

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Orders 2015-035 and  2017-249 have been revoked and Variation Orders 2017-110 and 2017-265 come into effect on September 26, 2017.
