2018 2J3KL Northern Cod Stewardship Fishery Update and Reminders

To promote distribution of catch throughout the season and to ensure that there is harvest available for those that selected the Fall Fishery Option, approximately 75% of the maximum allowable harvest (9,500t) will be permitted up to September 29, 2018. Landings up to and including Monday, August 27th total 3,942t, which is 55% of the September 29th amount.

To ensure that the total harvest remains within the maximum authorized harvest, the Department may make adjustments during the season. We will continue to monitor this fishery closely and if a decision is made to make an adjustment it will be communicated in advance to harvesters via a Notice to Fishers. As stated in the Conservation and Harvesting Plan, available online at http://www.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fm-gp/peches-fisheries/comm/atl-arc/management-plan-gestion/CHP-cod-PPAC-morue-eng.html, the fishery is scheduled to close for 1 week in 3KL starting on September 16th, 2018.

Harvesters in 3KL are also reminded that the base authorized weekly limit for the period of September 2nd - 29th is 3000 lbs/week.  Conditions for this period are available to harvesters via the NOLs.
