Winter Flounder (Blackback) Opening in NAFO Divisions 3KL

DFO advises that the Winter flounder (Blackback) fishery in NAFO Divisions 3KL will open at 0600 hours on August 16, 2016. Please note that the area in Bonavista Bay, within 1 nautical mile of the coastline from the western point of Indian Arm to the government wharf in Open Hall will remain closed this year due to high cod by-catch in previous years.

Fishing is restricted to areas identified in licence conditions.

Fish harvesters should review their conditions to be familiar with by-catch provisions for this fishery. By-catch levels will be closely monitored and areas will be closed where cod by-catch is excessive. Fish harvesters are advised that they cannot commence fishing until they have their 2016 2J3KL Stewardship Cod license.

Licence conditions will be available on August 15, 2016 through DFO’s National Online Licencing System.
