Notice

The Regional Director General for the Gulf Region, Department of Fisheries and Oceans hereby gives notice that the area listed below is closed for fishing for any species of clams, mussels, oysters and any other bivalve molluscs including bay scallops:

The following areas within or adjacent to Restigouche, Gloucester, Northumberland and Kent Counties, New Brunswick.

  • All waters within 3 km of the coastline and islands from the confluence of the Restigouche and Matapedia Rivers at grid reference 654710E 5315870N to grid reference 318214E 5286974N near Stonehaven.
  • All waters within 1 km of the coastline from the south-western shore of Lamèque Bay at grid reference 373150E 5291440N then to the southern abutment of the Miscou Bridge at grid reference 382100E 5304440N. (Including the coastal areas of Pointe-Canoe and Grande-Batture).
  • All waters within 3 km of the coastline and islands from Green Point near Pokemouche Beach at grid reference 363350E 5274050N to Pointe à Barreau at grid reference 357850E 5255140N.
  • All waters within 3 km of the coastline and islands from Point aux Carr at grid reference 332620E 5216600N to Cap-Lumière at grid reference 369340E 5168780N (includes Bay du Vin Island, Egg Island and Fox island, but does not include Portage Island).

Note: When the boundary of an area is expressed in grid references, those grid references are based on the Universal Transverse Mercator Grid system set out on the National Topographic Series Map, Scale 1:50,000 published by the Department of Energy, Mines and Resources (North American Datum 1983).

Fishers are reminded that nearby waters may still be closed to fishing due to high levels of bacteria. Fishers are encouraged to consult their local Fishery Officers concerning the status of the fishing areas before going fishing.

Contaminated Fisheries Prohibition Order No. GSN-2014-028 comes into force on July 17, 2014.
