Notice

The Regional Director General for the Gulf Region, Department of Fisheries and Oceans, hereby gives notice of the different angling methods for trout, smallmouth bass and landlocked salmon, during the following periods of time in the inland and tidal waters of Prince Edward Island indicated below.

*****Please note that the amendments with regards to salmon fishing are located in the second portion of this notice.*****

All waters found upstream, downstream or within a boundary or reference point(s), includes any waters (river, stream or brook) tributary thereto that are within that boundary or reference point(s), except if otherwise stated (not including).

Using any other method is closed from January 1 to December 31 (year round) for the inland and tidal waters of Prince Edward Island.

• The inland and tidal waters of Prince Edward Island:

From April 15 to September 15, angling is permitted with artificial fly, unbaited lure, bait, barbed hook, barbless hook, single barbless hook.

Except those waters mentioned below:

• East Branch Souris River and its tributaries upstream of McVarishs (Harmony) Pond at the bridge on Route 305 (Souris Line Road):

From January 1 to December 31, all angling is CLOSED for any species of fish.

• The waters of Trout River upstream from Goff’s Bridge (Cascumpec Road - Route 2) to the highway bridge in Carleton (Route 2) at grid reference 411887E 51771661N (NAD83):

From May 1 to September 1 angling is permitted with artificial fly, unbaited lure, bait, barbed hook, barbless hook, single barbless hook.

• The waters of Trout River upstream from the bridge at Banny’s Hole at grid reference 410620E 5172052N (NAD83), including all tributaries:

From May 1 to September 1 angling is permitted with artificial fly, unbaited lure, bait, barbed hook, barbless hook, single barbless hook.

• The waters of Trout River upstream of the highway bridge in Carleton on Route 2 (Western Road) at grid reference 411887E 51771661N to the bridge at Banny’s Hole at grid reference 410620E 5172052N (NAD83).

From May 1 to May 31 angling is permitted with artificial fly, unbaited lure, bait, barbed hook, barbless hook and single barbless hook.

From June 1 to September 1 angling is permitted only with an artificial fly with single barbless hook.

• The waters of Glenfinnan and O'Keefe's lakes:

From January 1 to December 29, angling is permitted with artificial fly, unbaited lure, bait, barbed hook, barbless hook, single barbless hook.

• The waters of Souris River and its tributaries between the bridge on Highway Route 2 and the Gowanbrae Bridge on Souris River Road (Route 358):

From May 15 to September 15, angling is permitted with; an artificial fly, unbaited lure, bait, barbed hook, barbless hook, single barbless hook.

From September 16 to November 30, angling is permitted with an artificial fly with a barbless or single barbless hook and unbaited lure with a barbless or single barbless hook.

• The waters of Souris River and its tributaries upstream from Gowanbrae Bridge on Souris River Road (Route 358) to McVarishs (Harmony) Pond at grid reference 557052E 5139361N (NAD83):

From May 15 to September 15, angling is permitted with artificial fly, unbaited lure, bait, barbed hook, barbless hook, single barbless hook.

• The waters of East Branch Morell River, upstream to 10 meters downstream of the Highway bridge on Route 355, not including tributaries:

From April 15 to May 31, angling is permitted with an artificial fly, unbaited lure, bait, barbed hook, barbless hook, single barbless hook.

From June 1 to September 15, angling is permitted only with an artificial fly with single barbless hook.

• The waters of East Branch Morell River, from 250 meters upstream of the Highway bridge on Route 355 to the Highway 329 bridge not including tributaries:

From April 15 to May 31, angling is permitted with an artificial fly, unbaited lure, bait, barbed hook, barbless hook, single barbless hook.

From June 1 to September 15, angling is permitted only with an artificial fly with single barbless hook.

• The waters of East Branch Morell River, from 10 meters downstream of the Highway Bridge on Route 355 to 250 meters upstream of the Highway Bridge on Route 355:

From April 15 to May 31, angling is permitted with; an artificial fly, unbaited lure, bait, barbed hook, barbless hook, single barbless hook.

From June 1 to June 30, angling is permitted only with an artificial fly with single barbless hook.

• Morell River, upstream of Morell Highway Bridge (Route 2) to a line drawn from grid reference 523454E 5135928N to grid reference 523451E 5135874N (NAD27) (Mckay’s Pool):

From April 15 to September 15, angling is permitted with; an artificial fly, unbaited lure, bait, barbed hook, barbless hook, single barbless hook.

• The waters of Morell River, upstream of a line drawn from grid reference 523454E 5135928N to grid reference 523451E 5135874N (McKay's Pool)to a line drawn from grid reference 523461E 5128910N to grid reference 523497E 5128899N(The Forks) (NAD27), not including tributaries:

From April 15 to May 31 angling is permitted with; an artificial fly, unbaited lure, bait, barbed hook, barbless hook.

From June 1 to September 15 angling is permitted only with an artificial fly with a single barbless hook.

• West Branch Morell River, upstream to but not including Leards Pond at grid reference 522058E 5126976N (NAD83), not including tributaries:

From April 15 to May 31, angling is permitted with an artificial fly, unbaited lure, bait, barbed hook, barbless hooks and single barbless hooks.

From June 1 to September 15, angling is permitted only with an artificial fly with a single barbless hook.

• West Branch Morell River, Leards Pond at grid reference 522058E 5126976N (NAD83), not including tributaries:

From April 15 to May 31, angling is permitted with; an artificial fly, unbaited lure, bait, barbed hook, barbless hooks and single barbless hooks.

From June 1 to September 15 angling is permitted only with an artificial fly with a single barbless hook.

• Scales pond (Dunk River):

From April 15 to September 15, angling is permitted with; an artificial fly, unbaited lure, bait, barbed hook, barbless hook and single barbless hooks.

From September 16 to October 31, angling is permitted with an artificial fly with a barbless or single barbless hook.

• Dunk River downstream from the Walls Road at grid reference 451339E 5132675N in South Freetown to the Steel Bridge at Route 110 at grid reference 448582E 5132147N (NAD83):

From April 15 to September 15, angling is permitted with; an artificial fly, unbaited lure, bait, barbed hook, barbless hook and single barbless hooks.

From September 16 to October 15, angling is permitted with an artificial fly with a single barbless hook or a barbless hook.

• Dunk River downstream from the Steel Bridge on Route 110 at grid reference 448582E 5132147N (NAD83):

From April 15 to September 15, angling is permitted with; an artificial fly, unbaited lure, bait, barbed hook, barbless hook and single barbless hooks.

From September 16 to November 30, angling is permitted with an artificial fly with a single barbless hook or a barbless hook and unbaited lure with a single barbless hook or a barbless hook.

• Boughton River, downstream from Ross’s Dam in Bridgetown at grid reference 535851E 5129343N (NAD83); Fortune River, downstream from Fortune River Road (Route 310); Vernon River, downstream from a point 100 meters above the causeway; Wilmot River, from Marchbanks Pond at grid reference 447100E 5138154N downstream to the highway bridge on Route 1A (NAD83):

From April 15 to September 15, angling is permitted with; an artificial fly, unbaited lure, bait, barbed hook, barbless hook, single barbless hook.

From September 16 to November 30, angling is permitted with an artificial fly with a single barbless hook or a barbless hook and unbaited lure with a single barbless hook or a barbless hook.

• The waters of Montague River, downstream from the Sparrows Road Bridge – Route 320, an area locally known as the pool below Knox Pond; Murray River, MacLures Pond, from the dam on Riverside Drive at grid reference 529686E 5095355E to the golf course bridge; Affleck’s Pond in Bradshaw River; Valleyfield River, downstream from the Valleyfield Road bridge – Route 326, an area locally known as “Sutherlands Hole”; Westmoreland River downstream from Route 13 on the East Branch ; Orwell River downstream from the Trans-Canada Highway:

From April 15 to September 15, angling is permitted with artificial fly, unbaited lure, bait, barbed hook, barbless hook, single barbless hook.

From September 16 to November 30, angling is permitted with an artificial fly with a single barbless hook or a barbless hook and unbaited lure with a single barbless hook or a barbless hook.

• Midgell River, downstream from Route 313 (Pius MacDonald’s Pond):

From April 15 to September 15, angling is permitted with; an artificial fly, unbaited lure, bait, barbed hook, barbless hook, single barbless hook.

• Hillsborough River, downstream from railway bridge on the Confederation trail in Mount Stewart at grid reference 510465E 5134838N (NAD83); Pisquid River, downstream from the bridge at Fort Augustus Road (Route 21); North River downstream from North Yorke River Road near Milton at grid reference 482936E 5127449N; West River downstream from a line drawn from grid reference 472844E 5116908N across the river to grid reference 472853E 5116907N (Green Road foot bridge):

From April 15 to September 15, angling is permitted with artificial fly, unbaited lure, bait, barbed hook, barbless hook, single barbless hook.

From September 16 to November 30, angling is permitted with an artificial fly with a single barbless hook or a barbless hook and unbaited lure with a single barbless hook or a barbless hook.

• West River, upstream from Crosby’s Dam at grid reference 472808E 5116711N, to Black Brook, located at grid reference 472694E 5117775N (NAD83):

From April 15 to May 31, angling is permitted with; an artificial fly, unbaited lure, bait, barbed hook, barbless hook, single barbless hook.

From June 1 to September 15, angling is permitted with an artificial fly with a single barbless hook or a barbless hook and unbaited lure with a single barbless hook or a barbless hook.

• West River upstream from Black Brook at grid reference 472694E 5117775N (NAD83):

From April 15 to September 15, angling is permitted with artificial fly, unbaited lure, bait, barbed hook, barbless hook, single barbless hook.

• West River from a line drawn from grid reference 472844E 5116908N across the river to grid reference 472853E 5116907N (Green Road foot bridge) upstream to Crosby’s Dam grid reference 472808E 5116711N (NAD83).

From April 15 to September 15, angling is permitted with artificial fly, unbaited lure, bait, barbed hook, barbless hook, single barbless hook.

• Clyde River downstream from a line drawn at grid reference 480603.84E 5120222N across the river to grid reference 480603.93E 5120224N:

From April 15 to September 15, angling is permitted with; an artificial fly, unbaited lure, bait, barbed hook, barbless hook and single barbless hooks.

From September 16 to November 30, angling is permitted with an artificial fly with a barbless or single barbless hook and unbaited lure with a single barbless hook or a barbless hook.

*****Fishers are also advised of the different angling methods for salmon, during the following periods of time in the inland and tidal waters of Prince Edward Island as indicated below: (Note: It is required to use an artificial fly with single barbless hook when fishing for salmon during an open season in the inland and tidal waters of Prince Edward Island [Salmon Fishing Area 17]).

• The inland and tidal waters of Prince Edward Island:

From June 1 to September 15, angling is permitted with artificial fly with a single barbless hook.

From June 1 to October 15, angling is permitted with an artificial fly with a single barbless hook.

• The waters of East Branch Morell River, from 10 meters downstream of the Highway Bridge on Route 355 to 250 meters upstream of the Highway Bridge on Route 355:

From June 1 to June 30, angling is permitted with an artificial fly with a single barbless hook.

• The waters of East Branch Morell River, from 250 meters upstream of the Highway bridge on Route 355 to the Highway 329 bridge, not including tributaries.

From June 1 to October 15, angling is permitted with an artificial fly with a single barbless hook.

• Morell River, upstream of a line drawn from grid reference 523454E 5135928N to grid reference 523451E 5135874N (McKay's Pool) to a line drawn from grid reference 523461E 5128910N to grid reference 523497E 5128899N (the Forks)(NAD27), not including tributaries;:

From June 1 to October 31 angling is permitted with an artificial fly with a single barbless hook.

• Morell River, upstream of the Morell Highway Bridge (Route 2) to a line drawn from grid reference 523454E 5135928N to grid reference 523451E 5135874N (NAD27) (McKay’s Pool):

From June 1 to September 15, angling is permitted with an artificial fly with a single barbless hook.

• West Branch Morell River, upstream to but not including Leards Pond at grid reference 522058E 5126976N (NAD83), not including tributaries:

From June 1 to October 15, angling is permitted with an artificial fly with a single barbless hook.

• West Branch Morell River, Leards Pond at grid reference 522058E 5126976N (NAD83), not including tributaries:

From June 1 to October 31 angling is permitted with an artificial fly with a single barbless hook.

• The waters of Mill River upstream from the Route 2 highway Bridge (Bloomfield Park)to a line drawn from grid reference 408859E 5177479N to grid reference 408865E 5177476N (NAD 83).

From June 1 to October 31 angling is permitted with an artificial fly with a single barbless hook.

Note: When the boundary of an area is expressed in grid references, those grid references are based on the Universal Transverse Mercator Grid system set out on the National Topographic Series Map, Scale 1:50,000 published by the Department of Energy, Mines, and Resources (North American Datum 1927 or 1983).
