Soft-Shell Closed Areas for Crab and Shrimp in NAFO Divisions 2J and 3K

DFO wishes to advise that in accordance with the soft-shell protocol, the following grid in Crab Fishing Areas 2 and 4 in NAFO Divisions 2J south and 3K will close to fishing for both Snow Crab and Northern Shrimp at 2400 hours on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 due to a high incidence of soft-shell crab.

These grids will be closed to Snow crab fishing for the remainder of the year. The closure for Northern shrimp is in effect for 60 days, and these grids will re-open to Shrimp fishing on August 28, 2017.

Harvesters should note that all gear in these grids shall be removed on your next fishing trip.

1. Grid S40 which straddles NAFO zones 2Js and 3K.

2. Grids T38, T40, X42, Y44, and Z42 in NAFO zone 3K.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Regions gives notice that Variation Orders 2017-129 and 2017-130 have been revoked and Variation Orders 2017-133 and 2017-135 come into effect at 1800 hours on June 28, 2017.
