2018 Northern Cod Stewardship Fishery - Temporary Closure in NAFO Divisions 3KL

DFO advises that the Northern cod Stewardship fishery will close in NAFO Divisions 3KL for a two week period at 2000 hours on Saturday, September 8, 2018.

This closure applies to vessel Classes:

A283 and A295

Consistent with the provisions of the 2018 Conservation Harvesting Plan (CHP) this closure is necessary as the landings are approaching the maximum allowable harvest established for the period up to September 29th, 2018. The Department will make a further announcement regarding a possible reopening for the week of September 23rd at a later time and will communicate that decision in advance via a Notice to Fish Harvesters.

Reminder:

The fall season will commence on September 30th and will be open to ALL fish harvesters based in NAFO divisions 2J3KL (regular season and fall fishers). Licence conditions for the period commencing September 30th will be available to harvesters via the National Online Licensing system (NOLs) at a later date.

Commencing September 30th the base authorized weekly limits will be:

2J3KL: Regular Season fishers = 3500 lbs/week

2J3KL: Fall Fishing Option = 7,000 lbs/week

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2018-293 has been revoked and Variation Order 2018-353 comes into effect on September 6, 2018.
