FISHERIES AND OCEANS CANADA
NOTICE TO FISH HARVESTERS
nf.18.371
November 15, 2018
Additional Bluefin Tuna tags available
DFO advises that a review of fishing activity in the Bluefin tuna fishery has been conducted, and based on the harvest to date, additional tags will be released.
The release of additional tags is being done in accordance with the Bluefin tuna Conservation Harvesting Plan which states that if after a review of fishing activity it appears that the quota is unlikely to be harvested, additional tags may be issued in an effort to maximize landings.
The number of additional tags provided to interested licence holders may range from 3-5, but this is dependent on the level of interest.
For those harvesters who are currently in possession of unused tags, these tags remain valid; however, the fishery will close once the quota has been taken, or is expected to be taken.
Those interested have until noon, Monday, November 19, 2018 to indicate whether they wish to be included in the release of additional tags. Tags will be issued once the level of interest is determined.
Expressions of interest can be emailed to Kimberley Penney at kim.penney@dfo-mpo.gc.ca or by calling (709) 772-5020.
