NOTICE TO FISH HARVESTERS

Unit I redfish fishery re-opening

Recognizing that the exploratory Unit 1 redfish fishery is late getting started this year and there is general interest among Unit 1 licence holders to explore fishing during the fall months, DFO will re-open the Unit 1 redfish index fishery as catches reported to date are well below the 2,000t index fishery limit.

Licence holders with access to the Unit 1 redfish index fishery and remaining quota available will be permitted to fish during the period November 27 to December 31, 2018.

Note that participation is conditional on 100% ASO coverage for fishing trips during this period. All existing habitat and other conservation area closures, including areas closed due to high catches of small fish and by-catch will remain in effect.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2018-389 has been revoked and Variation Order 2018-398 comes into effect at 1800 hours on November 26, 2018.

“Notices to Fish Harvesters” for all commercial fisheries are now available online under the Fishery Notices link on the DFO NL Region webpage at http://www.nfl.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/e0004341
