Soft-Shell Closed Area for Crab in NAFO Division 3K

DFO advises that in accordance with the soft-shell protocol, the following grid quadrants in Crab Fishing Area 3D in NAFO Division 3K will close to fishing Snow crab at midnight on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 due to a high incidence of soft-shell crab:

Grid quadrant AF 37-A, AG 36-A and AG 36-B

These grid quadrants will be closed to Snow crab fishing for the remainder of the year. Harvesters should note that all gear in these grid quadrants must be removed immediately. Gear must be hauled and not reset on your next fishing trip.

Grid quadrant AF 37-A is defined as the area bounded by the following coordinates:

50° 10' North, 54° 15' West;

50° 05' North, 54° 15' West;

50° 05' North, 54° 20' West;

50° 10' North, 54° 20' West; and,

50° 10' North, 54° 15' West.

Grid quadrant AG 36-A is defined as the area bounded by the following coordinates:

50° 00' North, 54° 25' West;

49° 55' North, 54° 25' West;

49° 55' North, 54° 30' West;

50° 00' North, 54° 30' West; and,

50° 00' North, 54° 25' West.

Grid quadrant AG 36-B is defined as the area bounded by the following coordinates:

50° 00' North, 54° 20' West;

49° 55' North, 54° 20' West;

49° 55' North, 54° 25' West;

50° 00' North, 54° 25' West; and,

50° 00' North, 54° 20' West.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2019-124 has been revoked and Variation Order 2019-131 comes into effect on July 3, 2019.
