Soft-Shell Closed Area for Crab in NAFO Division 3L

DFO advises that in accordance with the soft-shell protocol, the following grid quadrants in Crab Fishing Area 6B in NAFO Division 3L will close to fishing Snow crab at midnight on Saturday, July 13, 2019 due to a high incidence of soft-shell crab:

Grid quadrants J9-D and J10-A

These grid quadrants will be closed to Snow crab fishing for the remainder of the year. Harvesters should note that all gear in these grid quadrants must be removed immediately. Gear must be hauled and not reset on your next fishing trip.

Grid quadrant J9-D is defined as the area bounded by the following coordinates:

47° 45' North, 53° 05' West;

47° 40' North, 53° 05' West;

47° 40' North, 53° 00' West;

47° 45' North, 53° 00' West; and,

47° 45' North, 53° 05' West;

Grid quadrant J10-A is defined as the area bounded by the following coordinates:

47° 50' North, 53° 00' West;

47° 45' North, 53° 00' West;

47° 45' North, 52° 55' West;

47° 50' North, 52° 55' West; and,

47° 50' North, 53° 00' West;

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2019-142 has been revoked and Variation Order 2019-148 comes into effect on July 13, 2019.
