Closure of the 3Ps Cod Fishery to the Placentia Bay less than 35’ fixed-gear fleet
DFO advises that the directed Cod fishery in NAFO sub-Division 3Ps will close to the Placentia Bay less than 35’ fixed-gear fleet (Vessel Classes A262, A263, and A264) at 1800 hours on Friday, August 7, 2020. Landings for the Placentia Bay less than 35’ fixed-gear fleet as of August 3rd is 637t (fleet allocation = 623t).
In the fall, the Department will reassess landings of the entire 3Ps inshore fixed-gear fleet sector to determine whether a limited re-opening of the 3Ps cod fishery to the Placentia Bay less than 35’ fixed-gear fleet could be considered this season. Any consideration in this regard will occur in consultation with industry representatives.
The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Regions gives notice that Variation Order 2020-158 has been revoked and Variation Order 2020-161 comes into effect on August 6, 2020.
