Changes to the 2+3KLMNO <65 FG Greenland Halibut (turbot) Fishery
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans advises harvesters of the following changes to the management measures for the 2+3K and 3LMNO <65 FG Greenland Halibut Fisheries:
An increase in trip limits in 2+3K to 40,000 lbs RW, trip limits for 3LMNO will not change.
Permits will be based on a trip limit and permit expiry dates will be removed.
Permits will include an increase in gear to 150 nets.
Harvesters who previously requested a second round permit will be automatically issued amended licence conditions. However, harvesters who may want to switch areas, will need to make a request to change to the Department. Likewise those harvesters who previously were issued a first round permit but did not request a second round permit can request these updated conditions. Harvesters can do this by e-mailing David Small at david.small@dfo-mpo.gc.ca. by 5:00 P.M. NLDT, Sunday August 30, 2020
The acceptance of a permit is not a guarantee that sufficient quota will be available to harvest the amount on the permit. The Department will continue to closely monitor this fishery and closures may occur on short notice.
