Scallop Fishery Opening in 3Ps

DFO advises 3Ps scallop harvesters that the Scallop Fishing Area 10 (Placentia Bay) North of 47 00 N Inner Bay and Scallop Fishing Area 11 (Fortune Bay) North of 47 00 N Inner Bay will open at 0600 hours on Tuesday March 09, 2021.

DFO wishes to advise 3Ps scallop harvesters of new reporting requirements that are being introduced in 2021 for all vessels less than 40'.

In addition to required logbook submissions, mandatory hails and landing authorizations are now required for the 2021 season for all <40’ vessels.

These requirements are outlines in the conditions of licence for this fishery.

Fish harvesters are reminded that the portion of Scallop Fishing Area 10 (Placentia Bay), inside a line drawn from Point Verde (47º 14.33”N, 54º 00.94”W) on the east side of the bay, to Red Harbour Head (47º 16.59”N, 54º 58.58”W) on the west side is currently open and will close for commercial scallop fishing 2400 hours March 31, 2021 until it reopens 0600 hours September 1, 2021. This is in line with the management measures for this fishery.

Fish harvesters are reminded that fishing is not permitted in the following areas:

-that portion of SFA 11 from Fortune Head to White Point;

-that portion of SFA 11 from White Point to Point Rosie;

-that portion of SFA 11 extending from Point Rosie North to English Harbour East in water depths less than 30 fathoms for all vessel classes;

-the middle bed,

-the southern bed,

-the North Bed and

-the Core Area.

These areas are defined in your licence conditions.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2021-001 has been revoked and Variation Order 2021-012 comes into effect on March 9, 2021.
