Herring Fixed Gear Fishery Closed in Area 12 and Portions of Area 13


DFO advises that the Herring fixed gear fishery (trap, gillnet, bar seine - including modified bar seine known as "tuck seine") in all of Herring Fishing Area 12, and portions of Herring Fishing Area 13 are closed, as per annual closure, and will re-open at 0600 hours on Monday, August 1, 2016.

The areas that are closed are all of Fishing Area 12 (NAFO sub-Division 3Pn) and the following portions of Herring Fishing Area 13:

- That portion near Serpentine River, inside a straight line from Rope Cove, north to Coal River Head and the area within one nautical mile seaward of that line.

 - That portion near Fox Island River, inside a straight line from Road Point, north to position 48 degree 43.392 minutes North, 58 degrees 39.634 minutes West and the area within one nautical mile seaward of that line.

- That portion from a line drawn due west of Cape Ray, north to a line drawn due west of Cape St. George.

Fish harvesters are reminded that the closure inside of Bay of Islands remains in effect and fish harvesters can contact their local DFO office for particulars on these closures.
