Molluscan Shellfish Harvesting Closure for Roberts Arm Area, Notre Dame Bay

 

The town of Roberts Arm has a planned shut down and by-pass of the wastewater treatment plant to allow for a building replacement construction project.

 

As a result of the potential pollution impact on the shellfish harvesting waters, and as per the Canadian Shellfish Sanitation Program, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has recommended that the following areas be closed to all bivalve molluscan shellfish harvesting, effective 0600 hours March 7, 2016:

  • Those waters of Bear Cove, Notre Dame Bay that are inside, or west, of a line drawn from UTM grid reference 587817 5483679 southwest to grid reference 587237 5482946 (NAD 83, Zone 21).
  • Those waters of Moorey Cove, Notre Dame Bay that are inside, or west, of a line drawn from UTM grid reference 588218 5484350 southwest to grid reference 587907 5483753 (NAD 83, Zone 21).

 

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Prohibition Order NSN2015-010 has been revoked and Prohibition Order NSN2016-001 comes into effect on March 7, 2016.

 

It is illegal to fish for molluscs or possess molluscs from these closed areas. More detailed information on these closures can be obtained from the nearest DFO office.
