FISHERIES MANAGEMENT ORDER REQUIRING GASPEREAU FISHERS TO RETAIN
STRIPED BASS CAUGHT INCIDENTALLY (UP TO 500 STRIPED BASS DAILY)

(Section 9.1 of the Fisheries Act)

Notice

Whereas, for the reasons described in the memorandum before me, I am of the view that a threat to the
proper management and control of fisheries exists and that prompt measures are required to address
that threat.

I hereby make this Fisheries Management Order and I hereby impose the following requirements with
respect to fishing:

  1. Subject to section 2 below, any person fishing for gaspereau within the defined areas and seasons identified in the table below, who catches striped bass incidentally is required to retain the incidentally caught striped bass that measure between 50 and 65 centimeters.
  2. The maximum quantity of incidentally caught striped bass in a day that must be retained is 500.  Striped bass incidentally caught in a day in excess of 500 must be released in the waters in which they were caught and where they are alive, in a manner that causes them the least harm.
  3. Holders of a licence to fish for gaspereau must report to DFO, within 24 hours of cessation of any daily fishing activity, the quantity of striped bass caught and retained during that daily activity, by number and in pounds, via e-mail to: DFO.GLFENB.MPO@dfo-mpo.gc.ca

This Order prevails over any regulations made under the Fisheries Act, any orders issued under those
regulations, and over any conditions of any lease or licence issued under that Act.

This Fisheries Management Order takes effect on the day on which it is signed and will remain in effect
for a period of 45 days.
