Notice

The Regional Director-General of Fisheries and Oceans Canada for the Maritimes Region gives notice that Variation Order 2021-018 has been issued to vary the daily fishing quota, aggregate daily fishing quota, and size limits for trout angling in Nova Scotia effective January 5, 2021 through March 31, 2021.

This Order is issued as a correction to MAR-VAR-2021-002, which incorrectly included Black Lake and West Branch Lake.

Maritimes Region Variation Order MAR-VAR-2021-002 is hereby revoked.

The daily fishing quotas and size limits for trout fishing in certain bodies of water are varied as follows:

The waters of Cape Breton Highlands Management Area, enclosed by the following boundaries:

i)      Highway 105 from St. Anns exit (exit 11) to the Hunter’s Mountain exit (exit 7);

ii)    Cabot Trail Highway from Hunter’s Mountain exit (exit 7) to the Victoria/ Inverness County line;

iii)  Victoria/ Inverness County line to the Cape Breton Highlands National Park Boundary;

iv)  Cape Breton Highlands National Park boundary to the Cabot Trail Highway at Ingonish; and

v)    the Cabot Trail Highway at Ingonish to the 105 Highway at St. Anns (exit 11);

Note: The following waters are not included in the Cape Breton Highlands Management Area:

  • Baddeck River, North Branch Baddeck River, Peter’s Brook and Canes Pond, not including tributaries to those rivers;
  • Barachois River, not including tributaries;
  • Indian Brook, downstream from the confluence of the east and west branches, not including tributaries;
  • Ingonish River, not including tributaries;
  • North River, downstream from a point at the benches marked by a Fishery Officer, not including tributaries;
  • Middle River, including tributaries; and
  • Grant’s Pond.

In addition, the daily catch and retain aggregate quota for trout in the inland and tidal waters of Nova Scotia is varied to be two (2) trout, except for the Cape Breton Highlands, where the aggregate quota is varied to be ten (10) trout.
