Changes for Inmarsat (formally Stratos) Vessel Monitoring System units

DFO advises Newfoundland and Labrador harvesters of changes coming into effect November 1st, 2021 for Inmarsat (formally Stratos) Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) units.

All former Stratos VMS units currently in DFO's National VMS program must have the destination address for the DNID service updated by their Communication Service Provider company to ensure the unit will continue to report positions to DFO as of November 1st, 2021.

Fish harvesters currently using one of these units to meet DFO VMS regulatory requirements are required to contact their Communication Service Provider company to request the necessary change.

Inmarsat customers must contact globalcustomersupport@inmarsat.com, referencing case number CS0687913, to provide their 9 digit Inmarsat Mobile Number (IMN) and request the update to the DNID service destination address.

Starting November 1st, Inmarsat units that are not upgraded will no longer meet the licence condition requirement for monitoring by a Vessel Monitoring System (VMS).
